About the Event

Damdadi Da ๋‹ด๋‹ค๋”” ๋‹ค

Opening 5pm, Wednesday 24 September

To encounter a place is to inhabit it, if only for a moment. Damdadi Da invites viewers to inhabit the worlds of Korean artistsโ€”some who remained in Korea, others who moved to Auckland in the late 1990s and early 2000sโ€”revealing the ways art can structure attention, movement, and presence. For New วัืำสำฦตappนูอ๘audiences, this is a chance not simply to see artworks, but to engage with the rhythms, gestures, and practices that once unfolded in relative isolation.

The exhibition foregrounds how creative life responds to distance, migration, and the negotiation of space. It offers a way to perceive the subtle ways these practices continue to resonate, tracing connections across geography, time, and experience. Here, one does not merely look at objectsโ€”one encounters forms of life, patterns of attention, and traces of engagement that persist across contexts.

Curated by Seung Yuh Oh and Steve Carr, Damdadi Da is an exploration of movement, presence, and artistic dialogueโ€”a space where worlds meet, practices endure, and perception itself becomes a part of the work.

Jae Hoon Lee, Specific Work Note:

Jae Hoon Lee explores simulated weather with a virtual geological formation rising from the ocean. This digital echo of an iceberg hints that something has gone wrong in the interaction between the cryosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere.ย Ocean Rain (Part 2)ย unfolds in a digital ocean where strange geological forms emerge. The dynamic interaction between ocean currents and rainfall simulates climatic conditions, rendered through CGI imagery.
